Job Profile

Mott MacDonald are currently delivering the Asian Development Bank funded Karachi Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Project

As part of this project we are now looking to recruit a Team Leader to start in November 2017 and work for 10.5 months over a 12 month period (until October 2018). The four core areas of this contract related to:
  • Topographical, hydrological and other engineering surveys
    • Producing base maps at scale 1:500, and full digital mapping of the selected corridor and it's current conditions. Including alignment and overall layout showing legal right-of-way and/or the facade-to-facade right-of-way in case of any discrepancy; Inventory and geo-referencing of utilities; and inventory of any flyovers, footbridges, tunnels, underpasses, trees and street furniture.
  • Detailed Design of the BRT/Road corridor, and BRT Depot
    • Overall layout plan showing the city’s urban master plan, existing developments, infrastructures and mobility patterns, and future growth areas.
    • Layout plan showing selected corridor in regards to the urban transport master plan.
    • Preliminary geometric design of the proposed corridor restructuration including the BRT system, main road and NMT/service roads for overall corridor and all other subproject facilities.
  • Preparation of Bidding Documents
    • The bidding documents are to be based on detailed engineering design, and include detailed design drawings, technical specifications, bill of quantities, detailed cost estimates, for of contract, implementation schedule, and invitation to tender, instructions to tenderers and tender forms. 
  • Contract(s)' Selection
    • Assist in the process of selecting contractors to undertake the civil works. Process, draft, and obtain the agreement of the members of the evaluation committee to the recommendation in the Bid Evaluation Report.

Job Description

The international team leader directs the work of the civil engineering design team up to the time of award of contracts, with responsibility for the quality of the engineering design, contract documents and the accuracy of the costing. The team leader ensures that all work is completed within the schedule agreed with the client or later amendments. The team leader is particularly responsible for the management of the work of the international specialists, and on the job knowledge transfer to the local team leader.

The Team Leader is responsible for the overall management of the TA, for the contact with the funding agencies, providing work plans and progress reports to the funding agencies for coordinating the inputs of the individual experts and for all official dealings with the Implementing Agency.

Candidate Specification

Our client has requested that candidates have:
  • a Civil Engineering degree
  • Internationally recognised professional qualification in civil engineering or relevant discipline
  • Preferably 20 years of professional experience with 15 years in road and bridge design and the transportation sector
  • Specific experience in several BRT transportation projects, including previous experience as Team Leader or Deputy
